Coursework

Each course I have listed below I have taken at Clemson University or while abroad has helped me grow my knowledge and skill. Each course has profoundly impacted how my language, business, and general education skills developed. See the descriptions included with each class for more information on how these resources affected my education.

FRENCH: 1010 - 2010 


These classes covered a basic foundation of the French language, up to the intermediate level.  The percentage of French used in the classroom gradually increased over the four semesters.

LAIB 1270: Language and International Business

​

The class Introduction to Language and International Business allowed me to deep dive into my major and see the nature of international business and related career opportunities. It gave me further understanding of how language ties into international business and why the two are so important together. This course made me realize my love for the two separately and why it would be so perfect to mesh the two for a major.

​

FR 3050: Immediate French Conversation and Composition I 

​

I was able to take this class abroad in France where I practiced in the spoken language stressing vocabulary building and improving my written and oral skills in French. I was able to learn more ways to express myself in the language and reinforce my grammatical knowledge and skills.

​

FR 4120: French and Francophone Cinema

​

Through the lens of cinema and documentary film, this course explores the changes in French society from the period of the Second World War to the present day. Key moments in France’s history were examined in a range of prominent films that reflect cultural, social and political evolutions that have taken place. By examining these works from a variety of perspectives, I was able to develop a deeper understanding of French culture and the community in which they are immersed. This class was taken abroad with French students where I got to apply my understanding of the language to the best of my ability.
 

FR 3080: French Linguistics I 

​

This course provided an in-depth study of French phonetics while abroad. In class, I practiced
oral production as well as improved my listening comprehension skills by working in the language lab. Over the course of the semester, I was able to discover regional pronunciation differences, and grasp what it means to speak with a Parisian or Marseillais accent. By the end of the course, I had a much better grasp of pronouncing French properly, and acquired all the tools necessary to progressively improve with the study of the language.

 

FR 3999: Art History - Modern to Contemporary

 

I was able to examine the works and approach of modern French art masters and major art movements including surrealism, pop art, minimalism and conceptual art from from the 19th to 21st centuries. The course included visits to art museums in Montpellier, Nimes and Sete. It was an amazing course to take abroad because it was so interactive and I got a new insight on the art that I saw around me.

LAIB 4000: Language and International Business Internship

​

This class was a mandatory internship with an international company in the United States or abroad. While studying abroad, I utilized this and had the opportunity to be a social media intern for the Montpellier Basketball team in France. The hours for the internship were around 10 hours per week. I was able to take everything I have learned previously and apply it to the workplace all while expanding my skills and knowledge in a real world setting. With this I took a complimentary course that accompanies the internship and reflects on work culture in France.

FR 3160: French for International Business I

​

French for International Business I was a class that taught me everything about what my major truly is. I learned the common practices in the French-speaking world of business and industry while writing and translating business letters and professional reports. Having a cross-cultural reference for comparing American and French cultural patterns in a business setting was very eye-opening and taught me a lot about my future career

plans.

LANG 4990: Language Portfolio

​

Language Portfolio was a class that enabled me to showcase all four years of my hard work at Clemson University. From the International Business side to the French aspect, all with the emphasis on management. I was able to display all of what made my years at college so special and my love for my major and all that came with it.

​

FR 4160: French for International Business II 

​

​French for International Business II focused more emphasis on the linguistic and cultural examples of the French-speaking markets of the world. While tuning in on different countries, it allowed me to learn each specific country’s revenue and global marketing perspectives. This class taught me a lot about how each region is unique in its own way and how to work with each to have a great business transaction.

MATH 1020: Business Calculus I 


Business calculus gave me the basic concepts and applications of calculus. The topics
included functions and graphing, differentiation, and integration. Applications of the business
world were present and provided me with real world examples of when to use this in life and for future classes.

POSC 1020: Introduction to International Relations

​

The class Introduction to Language and International Business allowed me to deep dive into my major and see the nature of international business and related career opportunities. ACCT 2010: Financial Accounting Concepts

​

Financial accounting concepts had an emphasis on the use of financial data and analysis of financial statements. I left this class feeling prepared for future applications and how to prepare a balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement, analyze financial statements, and
calculate and interpret critical ratios.

​

ECON 2110: Principles of Microeconomics

​

Principles of Microeconomics was an introduction to economic reasoning and its application to the study of the behavior of consumers and business firms. Economics tied more into the business aspect of my major and I was able to get an understanding of why certain things worked the way they did. It also allowed me to realize important terms that I would see a lot more in the business world.

MGT 2010: Principles of Management

​

Principles of Management taught me the basics of a manager’s role as a factor of economic production. Functions of management, principles of organization, and behavior in organizations were some of the key concepts that I got to learn and understand. This course was a good stepping stone for the values of management that I would further learn as my minor.

​

ACCT 2020: Managerial Accounting Concepts

​

This accounting class was honed in on managerial accounting with a heavy focus on using accounting information to make informed decisions. This class tied heavily with my minor being Management and gave me a perspective on what I would encounter in the future.

​

ECON 2120: Principles of Macroeconomics

 

This was a continuation of Microeconomics which then shifted into Macroeconomics. The class had fundamental economic principles like economic growth and the influence of fiscal and monetary policies through financial markets. Macro allowed me to understand more of the business world and have a better grip on how to work through the ever changing market.

MKT 3010: Principles of Marketing

​

This was the first marketing class that allowed me to know the principles and concepts of planning, pricing, promoting, and distributing goods and services. I was able to find my passion for marketing through this class and it made me more excited for the future marketing classes to come.

​

ENGL 3040: Business Writing

​

Business writing allowed me to focus on writing strategies for professional business settings such as memorandums, letters, reports, and proposals. I left this class feeling confident in my writing abilities for a company setting and how best to address and reply to different situations.
 

MKT 3020: Consumer Behavior

​

This type of marketing class narrowed on consumer behavior and the reasonings behind why certain consumers purchase products. The understanding of consumer decision making is quite important in the business world and I will be able to apply my knowledge later in life when I am working on selling my company's products.

​

MKT 4270: International Marketing

​

International Marketing was my favorite class taken at Clemson. I studied marketing from an international point of view. This class allowed me to understand the foreign markets and the importance of the culture before implementing American marketing into their market. Globalization is something that I find fascinating and this class was a great way to learn all about the different thinking and practices used from a global standpoint.

 

MGT 4230: International Management

 

This course was studying the complexities of international business operations. International management refers to the management of operations in an organization that serves different markets and operates in more than one country. International business requires knowledge that goes beyond regular business expectations which is why I feel so prepared entering the workforce because I have learned so many skills since this class.
